The CRT Confirmation class attended a special presentation by Mazon: A Jewish Response to Hunger.
The students learned that a staggering 1 in 8 people in the United States are living in hunger. Could you live on a budget of only $1.40 per meal?
We tried to plan a meal for that amount of money and found the meals we could plan would not be nutritious enough and would still leave us hungry.
On the same day, the 3rd-5th graders visited the Mid Island Y JCC in Plainview to help stock the shelves at their food pantry.
During this year’s High Holy Days food collection, CRT members collectively donated over 60 bags of groceries. In order for those items to be accessible to people, they had to be put on shelves as they would be in a supermarket. The younger students also learned that there are many on Long Island in need of our help.
