Sisterhood’s first-ever Israeli cooking class and demonstration drew a sizable audience as Jeanie Corn taught more than a dozen attendees how to prepare a wide variety of delicacies.
During the hands-on workshop, called “Let’s Visit Israel,” Jeanie taught attendees how to prepare homemade hummus, baba ghanoush, tabouli and shakshuka (a traditional dish made with tomatoes and eggs). Everyone pitched in. Volunteers chopped tomatoes and cucumber for two different kinds of tabouli. At the stove, we were cooking shakshuka, a traditional dish made with tomatoes and eggs.
Participants tasted the delicious food, and ended the class with two different kinds of halvah and yummy tahini cookies. Recipes were distributed, and everyone went home full and inspired to cook Israeli food.
We shared favorite food memories from Israel and tasted all the delicious food we made, plus traditional snacks, juice, halvah and tahini cookies. Everyone went home with the recipes so they could bring these Israeli flavors into their home kitchens.
